Leisure and activities

Experiences to enjoy
Elba is a people-friendly destination, far from the mass tourism of places like Rimini or Viareggio, yet it offers something for everyone. Elba, with its stunning landscapes, is also an island steeped in history, with traces of the past found all around. Over two thousand years of events and notable figures have shaped its story, from historical figures like Cosimo de' Medici and Napoleon Bonaparte to the many artists, writers, musicians, and entrepreneurs whose contributions helped make this island paradise famous.

Museums and mines
In Capoliveri, just below the main square, you will find the Maritime Museum, home to artefacts and treasures recovered from the Polluce shipwreck, which sank in 1841. Just outside town, towards the Costa dei Gabbiani, visitors can explore the Museo della Vecchia Officina, dedicated to Elba's mining history. From here, a route leads down to the ancient Ginevro underground magnetite mine, one of the largest in Europe - a fascinating journey through history and nature.

Evenings in Capoliveri
In the heart of Capoliveri, a cosy cinema shows the latest films, while the main square and nearby piazzas come alive with music, literary events, and local traditions. Among the highlights of the year are the Festa del Cavatore, which takes place in spring, the enchanting Rievocazione della Leggenda dell'Innamorata (Legend of the Betrothed Reenactment) in July, and the lively Festa dell'Uva (Grape Festival), usually held in early October. The latter turns the entire town into a vibrant display of colours and traditions: the neighbourhoods compete in a contest for the best set design, recreating the atmosphere and customs of the past.

For children
The Tuscan Archipelago National Park organises creative and educational workshops for children at various locations across the island, including Mola, just below Capoliveri.
The Maritime Museum also offers occasional theatrical experiences and interactive workshops, allowing children to learn through play.

For teenagers
Numerous bars and pubs provide a great setting for socialising and making new friends. Those who love dancing can visit one of Elba's three nightclubs: Mandel in Morcone, Club 64 between Portoferraio and Procchio, and Giannino Live Music in Marina di Campo.

For adults
Pliny the Elder called Elba "Insula vini ferax" - an "island rich in wine". To this day, local vineyards produce a variety of wines, from whites to reds, with limited production of Aleatico and Passito - true nectars of the gods. Visitors can explore the island's winemaking tradition through guided tours and tastings.

Exploring Elba
Each of Elba's villages has its own unique character and charm, set against a constantly changing landscape. Strolling along the seafront or through narrow alleyways, enjoying an aperitif, exploring old districts, browsing local specialities, and hearing the island's many dialects is a perfect blend of leisure and discovery.
